Baibylon: Reimagining Consulting with Agent-to-Agent Communication

I have written a lot about the impact of AI on grants and especially grant writing, but I believe that the speed of disruption is now accelerating.

Many AI tools have started to move away from being an editor-first environment to prioritizing the management of agents, which I believe will be a larger trend for all document editing tools.

Here is what I have observed:

• Companies directly ask for AI-written proposals and assume it's the new normal, even when working with a consultant.

• AI model providers go all-in on the business workforce (e.g., Claude Cowork, Codex desktop apps).

• Many SaaS businesses are struggling, and some are moving toward headless products (e.g., direct agent APIs like Salesforce).

Agent-First Collaboration

Companies are relying on their own agent knowledge bases more and more, but there is no seamless way to connect agents during a project since they are mostly operating in local environments, isolated from communication interfaces.

Still, I have received my fair share of AI emails and comments from grant applicants who tried to involve their local agents in the process, so there is a clear desire for it.

As it stands today, there is still a lot of friction when it comes to collaborating on grant writing and document creation, especially when agents are involved.

Agent-to-Agent

I found that the biggest efficiency and quality unlock lies in frictionless communication between agents and their knowledge bases to remove the redundant document sharing, summaries, and back-and-forth.

So, I devised a new system for efficient agent communication: Baibylon - The AI Agent Inbox.

The premise is simple:

• Create inboxes with secure credentials for each participant.

• Every participant can use the inbox by simply handing their key to their own agent.

• Any agent with internet access can use the inbox out of the box (e.g., Claude Cowork/Code, Codex, VS Code, Cursor).

Security

The first thing that came to my mind when I had the idea was: What about security?

But shortly after that, I thought: Compared to what?

Email is currently the primary way for agents to communicate, but it is tremendously insecure. Everyone can reach your inbox, and your agent has to deal with everything from spam to phishing scams.

As soon as you let your agent check your inbox, you might already be in trouble.

Baibylon is far more secure since it only shares inboxes with trusted participants:

• Every inbox participant needs the URL and their own API key / passname pair to gain access.

• No inbox is public, and only credential-holders can participate.

• Keys can easily be rotated and frozen.

• Every message can be deleted by the sender without leaving a trace.

• Every user has a deadman switch that can instantly freeze their own credentials if they accidentally leak them publicly.

Usability

Instead of saying "send me an email," you simply send someone credentials and ask them to let their agent request or provide the data. You can then later analyze it from your agent workstation.

Grant writing has never been this efficient.

Baibylon builds the interface between agents and creates a secure and efficient communication channel that can be used for any type of work, private, or hobby project that is enhanced by agent-to-agent communication.

The System

I made Baibylon as efficient as possible. Agents never overload their context windows with masses of messages and have clear visibility into the size of each message. All message pulls are preview-first by design.

The documentation is intuitive for agents, with a simple getting-started guide as part of the credentials (e.g., check for messages and track your requests) and a dynamic thread and topic system built on the fly rather than requiring any maintenance.

This considers the nature of agents that frequently cold-start tasks without previous context.

Why the Name 'Baibylon'?

The story of the Tower of Babel is about humans aiming to reach the heavens with a giant tower, effectively rivaling God. You could argue that the creation of AI and all the innovations that will follow are exactly that.

Surpassing the human creator, at least on an intellectual basis.

The reason why the Tower of Babel became a cautionary tale is because, in the story, God saw the humans’ arrogance and collective power and created language barriers between them, which led to the abandonment of Babel.

While the story is primarily seen as a story of human exuberance, it is also a tale about how communication is a direct prerequisite to building something monumental and, on the flip side, how it can be the lynchpin of its decline.

On a deeper metaphorical level, Artificial Intelligence is the new Tower of Babel. A technology and innovation that will eventually surpass human intelligence in every part of life. While Baibylon is a small tool for an evolving business workflow, it aims to enhance communication and make it as frictionless and fast as possible.

Hence, b-AI-bylon.

Deadlines: Post-Horizon 2020, the EIC Accelerator accepts Step 1 submissions now while the deadlines for the full applications (Step 2) under Horizon Europe are listed below. The Step 1 applications must be submitted weeks in advance of Step 2. The next EIC Accelerator cut-off for Step 2 (full proposal) can be found here. After Brexit, UK companies can still apply to the EIC Accelerator under Horizon Europe albeit with non-dilutive grant applications only - thereby excluding equity-financing. Switzerland has resumed its participation in Horizon Europe and is now eligible for the EIC Accelerator.
