New EU Grants Added in July! Subsdy News Breakdown
With the EIC Accelerator Step 1 August deadline having just passed yesterday, here is my follow-up for Subsdy on new grants and tenders published on the EU's Funding & Tenders Portal in the last few weeks.
There were over 150 additions in a single month, so you can imagine there are a lot of opportunities. Still, I tried my best to look for relevant opportunities that might interest you or someone in your network who would appreciate the information.
I'm releasing these updates with details and links on Subsdy, but since this is a new feature, I'm sharing the first ones for free. So, here's an overview of the grants added in July:
CyberSecDome
This is a very interesting choice of words, as the title "Dome" is reminiscent of Israel's Iron Dome and the USA's soon-to-be Golden Dome, but EU bureaucracy has never been famous for its creativity. Nonetheless, the grant funds AI- and VR-based cybersecurity solutions with up to €120K per project. I know many AI companies are focusing on security, so this might be a great opportunity.
Low Power Edge AI Chips
The focus sectors are semiconductors and artificial intelligence, with applications in telecommunications (like 6G), autonomous systems, industrial automation, and healthcare. This is just one of multiple semiconductor opportunities, and grants start at €1 million.
Silicon-on-insulator (sSOI) Technology
With grants of over €1 million, this call supports the development and standardization of Process Design Kits (PDKs) based on validated sSOI substrate data. The deadline is in November, so there is enough time for eligible applicants to apply.
Next-generation Edge AI Chips
This grant targets the development of AI chip prototypes reaching Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6-7. These prototypes should integrate cutting-edge technologies such as non-volatile memories, neuromorphic computing, 3D heterogeneous integration, and photonic connectivity. Grant amounts range from €1 million to €5 million.
Urban Mobility Explained
With a total funding of €4 million shared among multiple projects, this grant provides up to €700,000 per project. It funds projects that offer high-quality, impact-oriented, and financially sustainable learning experiences, leveraging EIT Urban Mobility's network and expertise in various learning formats.
AID4SME Open Call 1
This call is enhancing industrial leadership in AI, data, and robotics to improve competitiveness and support the green transition. The call specifically targets European AI and data-driven small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Small grants of up to €150K are available!
Honorable Mentions
There are always some odd additions to the EU grants database (e.g., a random grant targeting adult websites of all things) that are quite niche and might only provide little funding but are interesting nonetheless. Here are the honorable mentions:
The Promotion of Handicraft Products and Support of Craftsmen
This grant is for consortia, combining public and private entities, and specifically aims to support handicraft production. It is all about supporting tradition, attracting tourists, and continuing the legacy of outdated production methods in the EU. This might be interesting for small businesses, especially in low-economic zones, even though the grant amount is a total of €970,000, which can make it an attractive target.
Manufacturing SME
This is a small grant with an amount of €50,000, but it could be an interesting seed contribution for early-stage manufacturing startups or established companies operating on a small scale. The grant is provided to improve the capacity of selected SMEs to adopt advanced technologies and social innovation for sustainability.
Operational Digital Platforms
This one sounded very interesting, as it was for Operational Digital Platforms (ODPs) to enhance cross-border digital infrastructures... but it was apparently canceled on short notice.
I rarely publish any content relevant to researchers and academics, so let me add two interesting options:
- ERC STARTING GRANTS: This grant targets early-career researchers, specifically Principal Investigators who have recently initiated or are about to start their independent research teams or programs. €1.5 million is available.
- ERC SYNERGY GRANTS: This grant is aimed at supporting collaborative research efforts by groups of two to four Principal Investigators, with up to €10 million available for a duration of six years.

Deadlines: Post-Horizon 2020, the EIC Accelerator accepts Step 1 submissions now while the deadlines for the full applications (Step 2) under Horizon Europe are listed below. The Step 1 applications must be submitted weeks in advance of Step 2. The next EIC Accelerator cut-off for Step 2 (full proposal) can be found here. After Brexit, UK companies can still apply to the EIC Accelerator under Horizon Europe albeit with non-dilutive grant applications only - thereby excluding equity-financing. Switzerland has resumed its participation in Horizon Europe and is now eligible for the EIC Accelerator.
